You don't have to go by this definition exactly, it's just the basic idea of a vampire. If you have anything you want to add to this--our--working definition of a vampire, please post it in this topic.

A vampire is a [mythological] humanoid creature whom feeds on the life force of other living beings. It is generally believed that this life force which they feed on is blood and that vampires themselves are undead. Vampires are immortal and will forever look exactly how they looked when they were turned.*
Vampires are physically very attractive to average humans which is something they will tend to use to their advantage. They are also inhumanly strong and fast with very acute senses. "Nightvision" is also something that comes with vampirism.
Vampires are usually sensitive to light, but being out in the sunlight will not necessarily kill them. Because of their light sensitivities, their skin is often much paler than humans'. They are incapable of sleeping.

*Turning: v. The process by which a vampire changes a human into another vampire. usu. done through a bite and the injection of vampiric venom into the victim's bloodstream.

Definition According To Webster:
Vampire: n. 1: the reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep2 a: one who lives by preying on others b: a woman who exploits and ruins her lover
